Founded in 1956 by Janesville factory workers who fell in love with curling on a trip to Canada, Blackhawk has grown into one of America's premier community curling clubs — volunteer-powered, fiercely welcoming, and competitive to the core.
Our MissionEveryone Can Curl
Age 7 to 87, wheelchair users, Olympians and office teams — we provide ice, instruction, sliders and brooms. You bring curiosity. Our certified instructors have taught 15,000+ first-timers. Curling is chess on ice, and we make the first move easy: warm building, warm people, cold ice.
Dedicated Ice6 Sheets, Perfect Pebble
Unlike arena clubs, we own our ice. Professional ice makers pebble and nip nightly at 18°F. Viewing lounge with radiant heat, fireplace, bar and live scoring screens overlooks all six sheets. Practice ice daily 6am-11pm for members. This is curling the way it was meant to be played.
Community FirstVolunteer Spirit
Blackhawk is 100% member-run. From ice crew to bonspiel kitchens famous for brats and cheese curds, members pitch in. Proceeds fund junior scholarships, adaptive curling, and free school field trips for 2,000 Rock County kids each year. When you join, you don't just curl — you belong.

Never curled? Perfect. 80% of our members started with zero experience. Pick your path:
🥌 Learn-to-Curl (90 min)
Fridays 7pm + Sundays 2pm. Safety, delivery, sweeping, scoring + 4-end game. All equipment, instructor, and post-game beer/soda + broomstacking included. Wear sneakers + stretchy pants.
🎓 Rookie League
Graduate from Learn-to-Curl into coached 5-week league. Same team each week, handicap scoring, mentor skip. 92% continue to full leagues. Includes membership credit.
⭐ Little Hawks Juniors
Saturdays 9-11am Oct-Mar. Light rocks, fun drills, sportsmanship + pizza bonspiel. Coached by SafeSport-certified volunteers. Scholarships available — no kid turned away.
♿ Adaptive / Wheelchair Curling
Mondays 4pm. Stick curling, no sweeping required. Paralympic coaches, accessible ice-level entrance. Free first month.
💼 Corporate & Private Events
Team building for 12-96 people. 2-hour ice + lounge + catering. Companies like Mercyhealth, SSI, Blain's return yearly. From $499.

Do I need experience or gear?
No. Wear clean sneakers + warm stretchy clothes. We provide grippers, sliders, brooms, stabilizers. 90% of Learn-to-Curl guests have never stepped on ice.
Is curling hard / cold / safe?
If you can lunge and shuffle, you can curl. Ice is 18°F but you’ll warm up sweeping. Heated lounge is 70°F. Falls are rare with our safety briefing + headgear available.
How do leagues work if I’m solo?
Sign up as free agent — we place 60+ solos yearly. Or bring friends. Teams are 4-5 people, one game/week for 12-16 weeks.
Can I rent the club for events?
Yes! Birthdays, weddings, corporate up to 120 guests. Ice + lounge + catering from $499. December sells out fast.
When is the season?
Ice Oct-Apr. Summer: floor curling, golf outing, Adopt-a-Rink volunteering. Membership is annual with summer socials.
