“SNOWPIERCER” CAST SAYS SERIES FINALE WILL BE UNDOUBTEDLY 'SAD' BUT FEATURE 'A LOT OF LOVE'

Writer Paul Zbyszewski also admitted during the show's Comic-Con 2024 panel that "any season finale is really hard, but series finales are impossible"

Snowpiercer is reaching its final destination.

On Friday, July 26, the cast of the post-apocalyptic drama series opened up about the show's final season and teased what fans can expect in the series finale during at a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

Series director Christoph Schrewe began by thanking AMC and the show's devoted fans for their ongoing support. He credited the "passion of the fans" for helping Snowpiercer get back on television after its original network, TNT, announced its decision to cancel the show.

"To be here with you guys tonight, or this afternoon, it makes me so incredibly happy. Just one and a half years ago, two years ago, we wrapped and ... we didn't know where it would go."

With Snowpiercer on its fifth and final season, writer Paul Zbyszewski admitted that "any season finale is really hard, but series finales are impossible."

"You do your best, and you cross your fingers and hope that at the end of it, the audience feels what we want them to feel, and think what you want them to think," he confessed. "And you hope that they're not thinking, 'Well, that's not quite [it].'"

When asked to describe the finale in one word, cast member Mike O'Malley simply uttered, "sad" while Zbyszewski added fans can expect "a lot of love" in the finale episode.

O'Malley, Daveed Diggs and Mickey Sumner appeared on the panel for the post-apocalyptic drama series at Comic-Con 2024. The cast also debuted a new teaser for the show's fourth and final season.

In March, Variety reported that Snowpiercer — which also stars Jennifer Connelly, Sean Bean and new cast members, Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov — would make the jump to AMC for its final season after TNT dropped the show to cut costs after three seasons.

“We can’t wait to share the final season of this thrill ride of a series with this vibrant fan community and new viewers starting July 21 on AMC and AMC+, with plenty of time built in to catch up on previous seasons on a variety of on demand platforms and AMC+ before then,” Courtney Thomasma, executive vice president of streaming for AMC Networks told the outlet. “Snowpiercer is an entertaining drama with a great cast and seeing how the ride ends will be a highlight of summer viewing worthy of a 1001-car train.”

TNT had been scaling back its show repertoire before the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger in 2022. Snowpiercer was supposed to be the final in-house drama to air on TNT before it was pulled. Tomorrow Studios — the production company behind the series — was then left to search for a new home for the show, which landed at AMC.

“We love Snowpiercer, and AMC is the perfect partner to share its final season, which completes an incredible series filled with brilliant talent that entertains viewers while exploring important global issues,” Tomorrow Studios Founder and CEO Marty Adelstein, President/Partner Becky Clements and Executive VP Alissa Bachner said in a statement.

"We’re so thrilled the train has finally found a home, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone at AMC and Tomorrow Studios for giving the fans of Snowpiercer a chance to enjoy season four with all the hard work this amazing cast and crew put into it,” Zbyszewski told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.

Season 4 takes place three years after the events of the show's third season, which "left a split of the train with Melanie Cavill (Connelly) leading the Eternal Engine and those passengers who chose to stay aboard Snowpiercer for relative safety, and Andre Layton (Diggs) leading the others on Big Alice who chose to adventure to the unknown, outside world of New Eden," according to the official synopsis.
