Fans have labelled the new Disney Plus sci-fi series – Marvel’s Ironheart -‘banging’ after the first three episodes were made available to stream.
Now, if you’re a fan of the MCU, you’ll no doubt know what Ironheart is about, but if you’re not up to date on what’s happening on Earth-616, allow me to explain.
Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart follows genius gadgeteer Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) as she teams up with the mysterious Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos) in the hope of scraping together enough cash to build a new suit of Iron Man-style armour.
However, Parker isn’t what he seems, and before long, Riri finds herself torn between the mystical and the mechanical.
Despite only three of six episodes being made available this morning, the show’s already winning legions of fans across social media.
On Reddit, CharlesFluidSmith said, ‘[The] show is fantastic. Can say without hyperbole, it’s my favourite Disney+ show.’
AdRevolutionary4061 was similarly enthusiastic about Riri’s adventures, posting ‘Loving this show a ton already!’, a feeling echoed by saintnick524, who wrote, ‘This show is amazing!! I really enjoy it.’
It was Xekshek33 who perhaps put it best, however, when they wrote: ‘This show is a banger’.
The delight wasn’t exclusive to Reddit either. On X, @jjmastermind claimed: ‘I’m hooked and there [are] only 3 episodes/one week left’.
@captaincupkicks meanwhile said: ‘I LOVED the first 3 episodes of #Ironheart! It’s a gorgeous show with fun action, real stakes, and an exciting take on legacy… Can’t wait to see the rest next week!’
@KeyWatkins51299 felt similarly, adding: ‘The first 3 episodes of #Ironheart were truly something iconic…This is a truly unique MCU series, and I am loving it so far. Can’t wait for next week.’
This news will no doubt come as a relief to Marvel fans as the initial wave of reactions (which were released on June 24) were a bit more mixed.
Critics, who watched all six episodes of the new Marvel TV show, didn’t seem overly impressed with the series to begin with.
@HopeSloop admitted on X that ‘Ironheart is really fun at times but feels (in my humble opinion) like it’s desperately in need of a soul.’
@TheHollywoodhandle wrote: ‘#Ironheart has some fun moments, but it’s never interesting enough nor does it manage to stick the landing.’
@RenGeekness was similarly negative, telling his followers that despitehaving some ‘ideas and themes’, it ‘can’t overcome a scattershot narrative.’
@Mark Cassidy was also disappointed by the series, posting on X that ‘it’s not good’.
@ZachPope was on the fence with the series, writing that he really wanted to love Ironheart but came away ‘not feeling much’.
Metro’s own Zac Haniff sat down with Ironheart executive producer Ryan Coogler to get the latest on the MCU…
Everyone knows that the MCU is building to the Secret Wars, but Marvel Studios already has an eye on the future and the end of the Multiverse Saga.
And do you know what’s coming next? While it’s Marvel’s merry mutants, the X-Men of course!
More excitingly, plans are already in the works for the film with Ryan telling Metro that Jake Schreier (who just made Thunderbolts) will direct the X-Men reboot.
Let’s hope Ryan had permission from Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige to tell us that…
‘VFX, Action, & some new additions of magic mythology to the world of the MCU stand out,’ he added. ’But the character arcs feel at a standstill by the end & don’t go anywhere.’
@DavidOpie felt similarly, claiming the show was a ‘mixed bag’. That said, he did admit that ‘the second half is much better than the first, tho (sic), especially when magic’s thrown into the mix.’
However, the Rotten Tomatoes critic score sitting at a respectable 72% it seems as though reviewers were kinder in their actual reviews than their tweets.
Sadly, there was an attempt at review bombing early this morning. The Rotten Tomatoes audience score dropped to a measly 30%, before the series had even been released.
Thankfully, the fandom did their best Avengers impression and assembled to save the day.
Since Ironheart’s release, the series’ audience score has slowly but surely recovered and is now at 70%.
Ironheart episodes 1-3 are available to watch now on Disney Plus.
