Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic is coming soon.

More than 25 years after the first film's premiere, Warner Bros. took to social media to confirm rumours that a second film was in the works.

“It’s official! Practical Magic 2 is in development and coming soon,” the post read, much to the surprise of fans of the cult classic film.

Practical Magic fans seemed thrilled to hear about the announcement, with many urging the showrunners to bring back the original cast.

One social media user wrote: “It’s going to be HARD to do a good sequel. Definitely have high hopes.”

Another added: “Omg I am so excited this better be real!”

Originally starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, the film follows the story of the Owens sisters as they navigate everyday life along with their gift of practical magic.

Based on Alice Hoffman's book of the same name, the plot is focused on the sisters’ attempt to break their family’s curse, which dooms any man who loves an Owens girl to die.

The film was an instant hit and a lot of people watch the film around Halloween alongside other spooky classics.

Few details have so far been revealed about Practical Magic 2.

However, US outlets have revealed that actors Bullock and Kidman will likely produce the film alongside Denise Di Novi. According to Variety, Akiva Goldsman will write the sequel.

The news of the movie comes over five years after HBO Max revealed that it was working on a spinoff series of Practical Magic. The series never actually materialised, but the Owens Sisters' cult status and their ‘midnight margaritas’ persist.

The Practical Magic sequel comes two years after another hit witch film also made a comeback. Hocus Pocus 2 returned in 2022 as a follow-on from the other hit movie, signalling just how much audiences loved the magic of Witching Hour and 1990s storylines.
