WHY GISELE BüNDCHEN AND JOAQUIM VALENTE SKIPPED THE 2024 MET GALA

One day after Tom Brady’s Netflix roast made headlines, his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and her boyfriend, Joaquim Valente, understandably opted to not step into the spotlight at the 2024 Met Gala. Bündchen used her Instagram Story to encourage fans to donate to the Brazil Foundation as the Met Gala red carpet wrapped.

A source spoke to People earlier in the day about how Bündchen felt about the jokes made about her and her family during Brady’s roast. [She was] deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show.” They added, “As always, [Bündchen’s] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted.”

Bündchen attended the Met Gala on her own last year. She wore a vintage Chanel bridal dress with a feathered cape on the red carpet for its “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty” theme. She spoke to Vogue on the red carpet about the outfit choice, saying, I wore this dress 16 years ago in a photo shoot in his [Karl Lagerfeld’s] house, and so I wanted to wear something that reminded me of him and an experience with him so I chose this dress.”

This is Bündchen’s first time bringing a partner to the Met ball since her divorce from Tom Brady. Valente has history with Bündchen though, as he was first her friend and family’s jiu-jitsu trainer.

Reports of them dating first came out in February. A source told People at the time that they had been together privately for months. “They have been dating since June,” the insider said. “They’re taking it slow. They started out as great friends first. She’s very private about this and wanted to keep it quiet while they got to know each other.”

In March, Bündchen confirmed their relationship to The New York Times, saying, “This is the first time I am seeing someone that was a friend of mine first. It’s very different. It is very honest, and it’s very transparent.”

As for fashion, Bündchen spoke to ELLE in September 2022 about how she approaches her career in the industry and modeling clothes like she is tonight at the Met Gala. “Believe me, every year [designers] ask, ‘Please, Gisele, do the runway,’ ” she said, adding that she has “zero desire” to do that.

She spoke about her headspace on the job, saying, “It’s very easy for me to go there and create a character and play that role for the day. It fuels me.… I feel inspired to go and create more beautiful things in the world in different ways, too.”
